World Book Day
Children and staff at William Hildyard Church of England Primary and Nursery School had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March 2020.
Everyone came to school with their favourite book and dressed as a character from the book. Throughout the day, the children enjoyed lots of speaking and listening activities based on their characters. Chloe, age 6, said, “I liked reading in the library because we shared our book with a friend”. They also re-created their characters using bio-degradable spoons made from corn starch. Mrs Lucas, English subject leader at William Hildyard said, “We have high aspirations for all our children - we want them to show curiosity and fascination with books, develop strong speaking and listening skills so that they can communicate with confidence, and learn how to work effectively together. World Book Day is a brilliant opportunity for us to teach these life skills in a fun and exciting way. I would like to say a big thank you to all the parents and friends of the school who have supported World Book Day again this year.”
